In larger data centers, the building management system (BMS) allows for constant and centralized monitoring of the facility, including temperature, humidity, power and cooling. Data centers are the biggest challenges facing IT executives in the coming years. Most storage management and backup software products lack the critical features required for the complete protection of all information stored on these machines. Specifically, users need comprehensive recovery tools to help them easily find and restore lost data and quickly bring idle computers back to full operation. Some functions in the Cisco Unified Computing System are similar to those offered by the Cisco Nexus 1000V Series Switches, but with a different set of applications and design scenarios. The Cisco Unified Computing System offers the capability to present adapters to physical and (in the near future) virtual machines directly. When presented to the virtual machines, VN-Link technology can provide many of the same benefits as those described for the Cisco Nexus 1000V Series. Basically, green technology is that in which the technology is environmentally friendly and is created and used in a way that conserves natural resources and the environment. High availability is a system design protocol and associated implementation that ensures a certain degree of operational continuity during a given measurement period. The Nexus 1000V switch is a software switch on a server that delivers Cisco VN-Link services to virtual machines hosted on that server.
